“Oh The Places You’ll Go!”
The Waiting Place…
…for people just waiting.
Waiting for a train to go
or a bus to come, or a plane to go
or the mail to come, or the rain to go
or the phone to ring, or the snow to snow
or the waiting around for a Yes or No
or waiting for their hair to grow
Everyone is just waiting
That’s not for you!
How about that for a little 1990’s nostalgia? Right now, we are talking about adventures. I don’t know what your plans are as you read this, but if you have none, stop waiting! You need to get moving and make some new experiences, and since this blog is about Maui, go to Maui! Now, there is something else I need to point out. When you do finally decide to get up and travel, I guarantee that you will look up the top “must do” activities in Maui. You will typically see the following:
- Drives up to Haleakala
These are great and all, but let us turn it up a notch, eh? I want you to experience Maui like you should, not like the typical tourist. Why? So when you go back to your dinner parties, you’ll actually have something interesting to share. I am not trying to be rash here, but let’s be honest. Everybody has heard what you typically do in Maui and if you do just those things, that makes you “basic”. Now, you don’t want to be “basic”, do you?
1. Scuba Diving at Night
Did you know fish are more active at night? This kind of creates an interesting conundrum. Do I go during the day, feel safer, and see fish OR do I go at night, feel risky, and see even more fish? Who knows! With all of that, there is nothing that gets the adrenaline pumping more than exploring one of the earth’s last frontiers at night. Just you, your flashlight, scuba gear, and 264 billion gallons of fish-filled salt water. Happy exploring!
Heres a Tip: You need to be scuba certified!
Location: Creepy Ocean
Spelunking! That’s a funny sounding word, but what does it mean? It means to explore caves, and if it’s in Maui, it’s exploring lava tubes! It is something the typical person doesn’t like. Why? Because they’re not EXTREME. I’m just kidding. Everybody is able to enjoy spelunking, and let me tell you something. This is a must-do! Just don’t go crawling into tiny spaces. Getting stuck is no fun.
Location: Creepy Cave
Tame the ocean. Re-ignite the primal instinct. Your ancestors snatched their food right from the depths, and you should too. Why go to Safeway, when you can sit at the table knowing it was YOU that provided this meal to your family. On another note, ancient Hawaiians would spear fish almost on a daily basis to catch their food. So, if you want to act like a local instead of a tourist, go spearfishing!
Location: Salt Water
4. Free-Diving with Sharks
You’re probably thinking of a shark cage right now. Well, I’m not. This is a FREE-DIVE with sharks. You want to talk about unique experiences or adventures? I would say this would be a good conversation starter. Think about it. You get to walk around and say, “I free-dive with sharks”. You just don’t need to tell them that it’s indoors, and within a controlled environment. So, if you’re interested, go to the Maui Ocean Center. FYI, you’ll need a reservation. Good luck!

5. Sea Scooters
Vroom! Vroom! You get to fly through the water at a whopping 2.5 MPH! Weirdly enough, it’s actually faster than you think. These Sea Scooters are incredible. It is essentially a giant fan pulling you around the open sea. I found an Airbnb “Experience” where somebody takes you around on these. Do yourself a favor and check them out. You won’t regret it!
Location: Shoreline & Reefs
6. Boar Hunting
Ok…. I get it. A lot of people do not like hunting. We all love animals, so it makes sense. Now, for those of you who DO like hunting, listen to this. These guides take it all the way back. Like, ancient Hawaiians back. Why? Because they only use dogs, knives and spears! I don’t know about you, but that’s one heck of a rush.
Please do contact them before booking a reservation. There are certain things you need to have in order. For example, a hunting license.
